The programme started off with a briefing and followed by ice breaker games where children get to know their team members better.

After a tea break, the garden troopers went over to Flower Dome to start an exciting day of learning interesting facts about some of the key plant families in the Gardens and children were taught how to recognise and identify common characteristics that make them a family!

Children had the opportunity to get hands-on working on the tasks given after an introduction given by the friendly and knowledgeable instructor. Mentors were also assigned to help and guide the children in their quests to find the answers for their tasks and to provide clarifications if any.

It’s time to move outdoors to Fragile Forest & Wild Flower Field where they were brought on an educating tour by Garden’s gardener host to look for butterflies and learn about the special relationship between these gentle creatures and the plants they love.

Children were advised to bring their hats, sunglasses (optional), apply insect repellents and water bottles before they moved outdoors.

Children have the opportunity to plant their very own butterfly-attracting plant after the tea break and take home their unique masterpiece!

After a fulfilling and exciting Day 1, children headed home with their own plant. Our boy has always been interested in Science and he likes to learn plants, insects and their habitats. He thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and he can’t wait to attend Day 2 of the workshop the next day.

The children started off Day 2 learning and taking a closer look at the world of feathered friends. They even get to pick up useful tips on bird-watching. Next, they moved on to investigate and find out more about the mysterious drop in the dragonfly population and the importance to save them before it is too late. Towards the later part of the workshop, kids get into their own group to create an ‘animal superhero’. Each of the group put on their creative hats, apply their imagination to create their animal superhero and think of what superpowers, their creation has to save the environment. After creating their ‘animal superhero’, each group will get the present and determine which group is the most creative.

After the tea break, children will now apply what they have learnt from the workshop and put them into practice. Children were given an opportunity to create a nature journal, given a binoculars for animal-spotting and to monitor the health of the environment.

Overall, it has been a very interesting and educating workshop, children are able to get up close and learn so much about the nature, plants and animals.
