This November, Chef X welcomes Taiyo Camp Club by Taiyo, a camping-themed pop-up experience by local celebrity and host, Shane Pow – the 10th resident at Chef X.

Taking up a two-month residency from 12 November 2025 to 6 January 2026, Shane brings a taste of the rustic outdoors to the heart of the bustling city, complete with hearthside-inspired treats, woodland warmth, and his artisanal banana loaves from Taiyo Bread Shop, the home-based bakery that he founded in February 2025.

Side Hustler-Turned Baker

Friends and familiar faces, including Li Nanxing and Constance Song, came together in support of Taiyo Camp Club by Taiyo.

For Shane, what started as a passion project in June 2024, i.e. baking banana bread in the comfort of his one-bedroom condominium, gradually evolved into a successful home-based business.

It all started simply enough. During breaks between acting projects, and with a few too many ripe bananas lying around, Shane began experimenting with banana bread out of sheer curiosity. He shared his bakes on Instagram, not thinking much of it until his friends and fans began asking how they could get their hands on a loaf.

Shane immediately noticed a demand for his banana loaves, and it was all the push and confidence that Shane needed to start his own home-based bakery. For six months, he devoted himself to refining his recipe, learning techniques from YouTube tutorials, and baking batch after batch to get everything just right. In February 2025, Taiyo Bread Shop was born.

“Taiyo translates to ‘sun’ in Japanese,” explains Shane. “It was what gave me the inspiration for Taiyo Bread Shop. Just like the sun, it’s my dream to spread happiness through my handmade bakes. Seeing my customers enjoy my banana loaves gives me utmost satisfaction and joy, and it motivates me to constantly innovate and deliver tastier creations.”

A one-man show, Shane takes pride in handcrafting his artisanal banana loaves from scratch, meticulously whipping up every batch and batter by hand. He serves a streamlined menu of only three flavours: Going Bananas, Nutty Nana, and Chocoloco, and they often sell out within a few hours of release – thanks to their delicate crumb, moist body, and aromatic banana notes.

*Taiyo Bread Shop is currently not taking in any orders; the banana loaves will be available for purchase at Taiyo Camp Club by Taiyo during its residency at Chef X.

“Fuel-Good” Campfire-Inspired Treats

With Taiyo Camp Club by Taiyo’s two-month stint at Chef X, Shane hopes to serve his signature banana bakes to a wider community, albeit with a unique camping-themed concept. Inspired by the simple pleasures of sharing food and conversation with loved ones around the campfire, he recreates an urban campsite in Clarke Quay Central, bringing to life the charm of the natural outdoors.

L-R: Going Bananas, Chocoloco, Nutty Nana

Fans of Taiyo Bread Shop can gather round and savour its signature collection of bakes: Going Bananas ($30 per loaf, $4 per slice), a classic flavour brimming with gentle banana hues, Nutty Nana ($33 per loaf, $4.50 per slice) with crunchy walnuts embedded within its soft, cake-like body, and Chocoloco ($33 per loaf, $4.50 per slice) peppered with dark chocolate chips.

Sweet-toothed diners can also look forward to savouring a delectable range of Chef X-exclusive bakes, including a Kohaku Foccacia ($4) made with fragrant burnt butter and cinnamon, an oh-so-luscious Belgium Chocolate Cake ($6), and a classic Carrot Cake ($6). There’s even a toothsome pecan pie – an upcoming bake created specially for Christmas – that’s made to be the perfect festive treat.

Shane will be whipping up new sweet and savoury bakes every now and then, so be sure to stay tuned to Taiyo Camp Club by Taiyo’s menu!

L-R: Midnight Ramyeon, Little Dimples, Golden Drumlets

On the savoury end, the menu features comforting campfire-inspired bites such as the Midnight Ramyeon ($8.50) with juicy popcorn chicken atop kimchi ramyeon noodles, Little Dimples ($8 for 8 pieces) boasting boiled dumplings drizzled with a vinegar-and-chilli sauce, and the Golden Drumlets ($10 for 8 pieces) seasoned with a secret spice blend.

A Community of Good Taste and Good Deeds

In the spirit of community and doing good together, Taiyo Camp Club by Taiyo is partnering with a line-up of small businesses and charities to create a meaningful impact. Among them is Care Corner Singapore, a non-profit organisation providing vital social and healthcare services. Part of the proceeds from Taiyo Camp Club by Taiyo’s residency at Chef X will go towards supporting its initiatives.

The collaboration also extends to coffee brand De’Longhi, where coffee aficionados can savour its indulgent brews, and local herbal tea wellness brand Ele Tea, which is offering TCM-inspired teas that nourish the body and mind.
