Funan, Singapore’s leading social retail destination that seamlessly integrates living, working, and play within the city centre, ushers in the new year with the return of its signature public art initiative, Creative Intersections. Now in its sixth edition, the showcase will take place from 22 January to 22 February 2026.
Titled “HOBBYHORSE: Rhythm and Forms of Play,” the exhibition takes inspiration from the Year of the Horse and brings together 24 local artists alongside 15 retail brand collaborations, curated by Vertical Submarine, complemented by curated installations throughout the mall. Designed as an immersive art-meets-retail experience, the showcase features dynamic installations and interactive encounters that invite shoppers and art lovers to engage with the equine spirit of movement, energy, and exploration.
Creative Intersections “HOBBYHORSE: Rhythm and Forms of Play” is listed in the itinerary of Singapore Art Week 2026, and will be presented on two fronts by tenants and the mall.
At the tenant level, brands are partnering with various artists to co-create works of art that will be displayed in their stores. This year, eight of the fifteen participating brands are making their debut in Creative Intersections, namely Ace Club Tennis, Allbirds, AlphaTheta, DJI, Herschel, Hydro Flask, TOMS, and Wingstop. At the mall level, Funan collaborates with local artists to create public exhibits, such as “In the Measure of Horseshoes” at the Grand Stairs by Wendy Victoria Mack, a brand-new animation “Horse Shtick!” for the Kinetic Wall by Gavin Lee, who is debuting his creative work this year, as well as six Passion Horses designed by various artists.
#1 GRAND STAIRS
IN THE MEASURE OF HORSESHOES
The Funan Grand Stairs at Level 1 drift into a quiet dream, transforming into the body of a resting horse with its hair flowing gently down each step. Visitors are invited to wander through this imagined mane, counting the horseshoes nestled within – much like counting sheep, only this time, horses. Let the rhythm of the count guide you – find them all, and a reward awaits.

#2 PASSION HORSES
These horse exhibits are designed to embody each of Funan’s six passions: Chic, Craft, Fit, Play, Taste and Tech.
#3 KINETIC WALL ANIMATION
The Kinetic Wall is Singapore’s first-of-its-kind 7-storey digital art installation at Funan. It measures 13m high and 9m wide and is constructed of 1,271 motorised light blades and embossed aluminium panels. Mirrored ceilings complement this spectacular structure to heighten its visual impact.

“Horse Shtick!” follows a hobby horse named Hobbi as it emerges from its box and encounters the world with wide-eyed curiosity, from bustling streets and passing crowds to the ceaseless rhythm of urban life. Through this playful exploration, Hobbi discovers that it is not limited by its simple stick form. Instead, its body becomes a conduit for transformation and imagination, capable of becoming anything it wills itself to be.
What begins as a familiar childhood object gradually reveals itself as a symbol of creative possibility and reinvention. The artwork celebrates the joy of embracing one’s potential, encouraging viewers to see play as a powerful driver of self-expression and growth.

ABOUT THE CREATOR
Gavin Lee is a multidisciplinary digital artist based in Singapore. As creative lead, Lee has collaborated with MTV Asia and Light to Night Singapore, with his 2021 project Light in the Overgrowth recognised as a Crowbar Award finalist. His practice spans 2D animation, digital illustration, AR, and projection mapping.
Creative Intersections is a signature annual mall campaign organised by Funan in collaboration with Justin Loke, Creative Director of Vertical Submarine. This event brings together artists and retail brands to transform Funan into a dynamic space for shared creative experiences.
Justin curated a roster of Singaporean and Singapore-based artists to envision associated themes, such as resilience, transformation, and interconnectedness, into diverse art forms. From paintings, sculptures, multimedia installations, and interactive experiences, these artists weave their unique blend of influences, pop culture, and heritage into their creative works such that shoppers embark on an art odyssey at Funan.
