Interview with Ezam Ernady
1. You’ve been a familiar voice on RIA 897 for over a decade. What first drew you to the world of radio, and how has your journey evolved over the years?
Ezam Ernady: My love for music began when I was just six years old. Growing up, I was inspired by my late father, who was a wedding host. Watching him sparked my curiosity about becoming a host myself one day. That dream became a reality when I joined a competition in 2023, which opened my eyes to the incredible world of radio. Over the past year as a presenter, I’ve discovered that radio is so much more than just speaking on air. Today’s DJs are content creators, producers, and digital storytellers. It’s a role that challenges me creatively every day and keeps my routine exciting and fresh.
2. Since winning Suara Juara: The Star Voice in 2023, how has that milestone impacted your professional opportunities or confidence as a radio personality and emcee?
Ezam Ernady: Winning Suara Juara was a turning point in my career. It brought greater visibility where I began getting recognized in public and saw a growth in my social media following. More importantly, it opened doors to larger hosting opportunities and allowed me to collaborate with seasoned DJs across different stations. These experiences have helped shape me into a more confident, well-rounded presenter and host.
3. You’ve become a well-known host for weddings and events, how do you balance that high-energy public-facing work with your commitments at RIA 897?
Ezam Ernady: Being a wedding host is something I’m familiar with, but balancing it with radio work does require careful planning. Time management is key. I make sure my schedule is well-coordinated so I can give my best to both roles. I also prioritize my health by jogging and playing football a few times a month to maintain energy and focus. Rest and wellness are just as important as performance.
4. Outside of work, you’re a proud father of three daughters, and congratulations on expecting your fourth child! How would you say your parenting style has changed or evolved with each child?
Ezam Ernady: Thank you! With each child, my approach to parenting has matured. My first taught me what it means to be a father. My second helped me develop a deeper sense of responsibility, discipline, and fairness. My third reminded me of the importance of time management, working hard, and finding joy in everyday moments. Each child has helped me grow not just as a parent, but as a person.
5. What are some core values or traditions you try to instill in your daughters, especially growing up in a media-savvy household?
Ezam Ernady: We have a few household traditions, like no phones during meals and always eating together as a family. I emphasize respect for all people, regardless of race or religion, and teach them that discipline, education, and hygiene are non-negotiable. Also, drinking plain water is a must! In a world filled with digital noise, these values help ground them in what’s important.
6. Has being a father influenced the way you approach your content or conversations on radio, especially when connecting with your audience?
Ezam Ernady: Absolutely. Being a father gives me a deeper understanding of younger listeners. I understand their interests, their language, and even how they view public figures. I’m more mindful about the content I put out and the image I project because I know how impressionable the audience can be. It’s about being relatable while remaining responsible.
7. With such a packed professional schedule, how do you make time for yourself and your family, and what does quality time look like in your household?
Ezam Ernady: My personal downtime usually happens after midnight which is after my night show. That’s when I relax by watching movies or listening to music, it helps me recharge. But my family is always my priority. Weekends are sacred, whether I’m on duty or not. I make it a point to bring my kids out to parks, beaches, malls, or at home ensuring they enjoy their childhood and know their parents are always there for them.
8. Looking ahead, what are some hopes or dreams you have for both your career and your growing family?
Ezam Ernady: Career-wise, I hope to continue contributing meaningfully to the community perhaps by venturing more into off-air roles like acting or television hosting. To me, every day is a chance to learn and grow. As for my family, my dream is simple: that my children grow up happy, healthy, and supported. Just as they’ve always been there for me, I’ll always be there to support their dreams too.
Ezam Ernady continues to embrace the dynamic world of radio and event hosting with passion and dedication, all while nurturing a growing family.
