Elvis Presley is one of the most well-known singers in the world, even though he had passed away almost 4 decades ago. Do you know that he still holds the world records of selling the most number of records in the world (ie the most popular singer in the world by record sales)? According to the R.I.A.A., (Recording Industry Association of America), he is the leading all time artist in record sales, with more than 2.5 billion records sold worldwide!
He is known as “The King of Rock and Roll” or sometimes simply as “The King”. His musical career spanned from the late 1950s all the way into the 1970s, until his untimely death in 1977. Till today, his songs are still very popular among the young and the old. This year marks his 80th anniversary of Elvis’s birth. He was born on 8 January 1935.
Our Parenting World is invited to attend this tribute concert at Mastercard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands. This tribute concert is brought directly from Las Vegas, USA. ‘The Ultimate Tribute to Elvis’ is an unforgettable multi-media and live musical journey across Elvis’s life. This concert features champions and finalists from Elvis Presley Enterprises’ worldwide Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, audiences can’t help but to fall in love with this phenomenal theatrical concert experience.
There are three Elvis tribute performers in this tribute concert, Bill Cherry, Dean Z and Jay Dupuis. The first performer sang Elvis’s songs at the beginning of his career and there are also video snippets of his actual performance in the 1950s. This is followed by the second performer who sings many of his songs in the 1960s. The last Elvis performer wear the most impressive Elvis costume sings his songs from late 1960s onwards. The tempo of the concert alternated between fast Rock & Roll hits like “Jailhouse Rock” and “Viva Las Vegas” to slow romantic ballads like “In the Ghetto” and “Can’t help falling in love”.
If we can only use one word to describe this concert, it will be the word “Amazing”. Elvis Presley is well known for his on-stage performance and a strong voice. The performers in this concert certainly lived up to Elvis’s reputation for both the on-stage performance and also the singing. The Ann-Margret tribute artiste, 4 back-up singers and the 4-piece live band supporting the concert also play a major role in making this concert a success. It is a trip down memory lane for many of the audience who grew up during the Rock & Roll era. Many of the audience were seen tapping their feet, swinging their hands and singing to the songs when we were there. Like what many people said, “There will never be another singer like Elvis again”. This is certainly a great way to celebrate the long Easter weekend.
