Early bird and public ticket sales are now open for Pangdemonium’s production of Come From Away, playing at Victoria Theatre from 11 to 27 September 2026. Featuring book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein and directed by Pangdemonium’s Associate Director Timothy Koh, the Olivier Award-winning musical will be the final production presented by one of Singapore’s most beloved theatre companies.
Rather than mark the end of its journey with a quiet goodbye, Pangdemonium has chosen to close with a story centred on collective action, compassion and the connections that emerge when strangers come together during a moment of crisis. The production reflects the company’s longstanding belief in theatre as a means of encouraging empathy, challenging perspectives and recognising the experiences that connect people despite their differences.
Set against the events of 11 September 2001, Come From Away recounts the true story of Gander, a small Canadian town where 38 international aircraft carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were diverted following the closure of United States airspace. With little warning and few resources, residents of Gander and its surrounding communities opened their schools, homes and community spaces to complete strangers, offering food, clothing, shelter and reassurance at a moment of profound global uncertainty.
Presented in the year marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the musical looks beyond tragedy to focus on the human response to crisis: the instinct to welcome, protect and care for others, even across differences in nationality, faith, culture and circumstance.
For Pangdemonium, the story serves as both a culmination and a final invitation to audiences: to gather, reflect and celebrate the humanity that connects us.
“Come From Away celebrates everything we still believe in about humanity – decency, kindness, empathy, compassion, selflessness, community, putting aside prejudices to make someone’s day a little better, going out of one’s way to do something positive for a stranger,” said Adrian and Tracie Pang, Artistic Directors of Pangdemonium. “All that is demonstrated in its simplest form on stage, in this beautiful, uplifting, life-affirming musical that also challenges us to question ourselves – would we do that?”
The Collective Heart of Come From Away
Unlike musicals centred on a single protagonist, Come From Away is driven by an ensemble. whose members collectively portray the residents, passengers, pilots and volunteers brought together in Gander. Its performers move between the roles of residents, passengers, pilots, volunteers and family members, collectively carrying the production’s narrative and emotional weight.
The cast comprises Benjamin Chow, Inch Chua, Candice de Rozario, Rebekah Sangeetha Dorai, Sheila Francisco, Eric Larrea, Dwayne Lau, Gavin Leahy, Lim Yu-Beng, Victoria Mintey and Nadya Zaheer.
Through rapidly intersecting characters and stories, the musical reinforces the idea that meaningful change is rarely created by one individual alone. Its impact comes from people listening, responding and choosing to act together.
That ensemble spirit closely reflects Pangdemonium’s own approach to theatre: an art form created collectively, experienced communally and shaped by the contributions of performers, creatives, crew members, collaborators and audiences alike.
The production marks Associate Director Timothy Koh’s first time directing a musical, and the latest milestone in his growing body of work. Since joining the company as Associate Director in 2022, Koh has directed Pangdemonium’s Muswell Hill, Doubt: A Parable, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Singapore, Michigan.
His work on Doubt: A Parable and Singapore, Michigan earned nominations for Production of the Year and Best Director at The Straits Times Life Theatre Awards in 2024 and 2026. With Come From Away, Koh takes an exciting next step in his artistic journey as a director, bringing his thoughtful, human-centred approach to a large-scale ensemble musical for the first time.
“Come From Away is built on trust, rhythm and the generosity of an ensemble,” said Koh. “No single performer carries the story; its impact comes from the company listening and responding to one another. I hope audiences leave with a renewed sense of what people can achieve when they choose to care for one another.”
Celebrating 16 Years of Pangdemonium, from stage to page
Alongside Come From Away, Pangdemonium will release Ass-Kicking Adventures in Theatre: The Pangdemonium Story, a limited-edition, commemorative book celebrating the company’s 16-year journey. Conceived as a companion to its finale season, the pictorial memorial will revisit the productions, people and creative relationships that have shaped Pangdemonium’s body of work.
Through archival photography, reflections and behind-the-scenes material, the book will preserve a record of theatrical moments that were created to be experienced live before continuing through memory. It will also recognise the artists, practitioners, staff, partners and audiences who have contributed to Pangdemonium’s story and helped build a community around its work.
Limited to 500 copies, the book is priced at $45 and will be available for purchase at https://pangdemonium.com/ass-kicking-adventures-in-theatre. It may also be added to ticket purchases for Come From Away or purchased at Victoria Theatre during the production’s limited run.
