Ajoomma, the critically-acclaimed Singapore film, starring Hong Huifang will be the first homegrown title to be exclusively available on Prime Video in Singapore from 13 April 2023.
Directed by He Shuming and produced by award-winning filmmaker Anthony Chen, “Ajoomma” is a Singapore-South Korea film that stars Hong Huifang, Kang Hyoung-suk, and Jung Dong-hwan. The film, which carries the title “Auntie” in Korean (아줌마) and Chinese (花路阿朱妈), is a collaboration between the two countries and promises to be a compelling cinematic experience.
The film portrays the story of Auntie (played by Hong Huifang), a middle-aged Singaporean woman who has selflessly dedicated her best years to caring for her family. With her son Sam (played by Shane Pow) now grown up and ready to leave the nest, Auntie must navigate a new chapter in her life beyond her roles as daughter, wife, and mother. In a spur-of-the-moment decision, she embarks on a solo trip to Korea, setting off a series of unforeseen events. Along the way, she encounters Kwon-Woo (played by Kang Hyoung-suk), a young tour guide struggling with his own challenges, and Jung Su (played by Jung Dong-hwan), an elderly security guard. Together, the unlikely trio embarks on a roller coaster ride filled with heart-fluttering moments and unexpected bonds that redefine their lives.
Inspired by the director’s mother, Ajoomma is the story of a woman’s journey of self-discovery, where Auntie learns to embrace her new independent life with renewed confidence and panache.
