{Jeeves and Wooster and Review}

The charmingly incompetent English gentleman Bertie Wooster and his unflappable valet Jeeves are packing their bags for a trip to Singapore! The hilarious pair has arrived after a sell-out year in London’s West End and three successful UK tours.

Generally when it comes to English humours, there are two types, British and American humours. The American humour tends to be more direct and loud, like the TV comedies of “Friends”, “The Simpsons”, “Cheers” etc. British humour tends to be more sophisticated and subtle like “Mr Bean”, “Yes Minister” etc.

Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense is a classic British humour. You may need a short time to warm up to it and understand the jokes but once you are able to catch the jokes, they become extremely funny. Joseph Chance as Jeeves and Matthew Carter as Bertie Wooster played the key characters. The pair has demonstrated great chemistry and portrayed their roles with such perfect timing and humour as the charming, incompetent English gentleman Bertie Wooster with his highly efficient and sometimes snobbish personal valet Jeeves. We all had a good laugh watching them!

Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense was the winner of the 2014 Olivier Awards for the Best New Comedy. The story was about Bertie Wooster deciding to stage a one-man show on his recent experiences at Totleigh Towers, but unfortunately his show was not ready and he had to ask his valet, Jeeves for help. Jeeves as the competent valet and with the help of another valet, Seppings splendid performance by Robert Goodale managed to help Bertie to ensure eventual success.

Bertie Wooster, the dim-witted, calamity-prone English gentleman, and his suave, shrewd manservant and solver of all problems – Jeeves, were the most famous creations of renowned English author P. G. Wodehouse. They first appeared in 1915, and thereafter in a total of 35 short stories and 11 novels recounting their hilarious escapades, making their final appearance in 1974 in Wodehouse’s last completed novel ‘Aunts Aren’t Gentlemen’.  Perfect Nonsense is based on and adapted from Wodehouse’s literary works, and is written by brothers Robert and David Goodale.

Jeeves and Wooster have also become world-famous fictional characters, appearing in films, televisions and stage adaptations, most notably the British TV series ‘JEEVES AND WOOSTER’ starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. Both the name and character of Jeeves have over the years become known as the quintessential name for a valet or butler, and for all things associated with the role of a gentleman’s gentleman.

If you enjoy watching classic British humour, don’t miss the award-winning Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense now in Singapore till 16 October 2016!
