Mention The Sound of Music, many of us would have heard of its many memorable songs and even grew up with it. The story is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp and The Story of the Trapp Family Singers

The original Broadway production opened on November 16, 1959 won 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and it was immensely popular and well received that it went through numerous productions and revivals since then. It has also been made into a movie based on a 1965 film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. This movie won five Academy Awards.

Sound of Music is a classic and well-loved story that spans through multi-generation.

The dazzling production of The Sound of Music showing at MasterCard Theatres comes from the home of West End musical theatre, the famous London Palladium. The musical is based on a uplifting true story of Maria, the fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain Von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music, culminating in the family’s escape across the mountains to freedom.

This musical will touch the hearts of many as it will bring back unforgettable memories of beautiful songs that we are familiar with like The Sound of Music, Do-Re-Mi, My Favourite Things, Edelweiss, Climb Ev’ry Mountains, The Lonely Goatherd, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and so on. There are so many memorable and unforgettable songs and in fact this is one musical that we can sing along with almost all the songs from our memories as we have been listening to it since young.

Look out for the six children (out of the seven in total), two males and four females from age 6 to 13 that form the Von Trapp family. They are performed by eighteen of Singapore’s most talented young actors and actresses who have been picked from a pool of more than 400 applicants. They will perform in rotation as the six children from the girls’ characters as Marta, Brigitta, Louisa, adorable Gretl and the boys’ characters as Federich and Kurt.

Bravo to the cast for the outstanding performances!

The audience were memerized by the powerful and melodic singing by the cast. We thoroughly enjoyed the musical and to us, it brings back fond memories as we grew up listening to the songs and our children are also singing the songs in schools like Do-Re-Mi. Even after watching the musical, we are still humming to the songs and the songs are also ringing in our ears for a long time. It is indeed unforgettable!
