{WICKED -The Musical and Review}
“Wicked”, the musical has arrived in Singapore and it was first premiered in Singapore in 2011. To the excitement of audience in Singapore, this is one of the most anticipated musicals is now back again at MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands! Wicked is widely regarded as one of the most celebrated, spectacular and successful musicals of all time and The Huffington Post called it “A gorgeous musical that brought tears to our eyes”.
The musical is based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The star of the story is Elphaba who was born green in colour and has no friends. When her father put her in boarding school with her sister, Elphaba was assigned to be roommate with Glinda who was exactly opposite of her. Glinda was pretty and very popular among her friends. The pair then developed close friendships even though they were very different. The pair also shared the same love interest, Fiyero who was portrayed as a shallow Prince initially and later fell in love with Elphaba over Glinda.

For those of you who are familiar with the Wizard of Oz story, Elphaba eventually became the wicked witch and Glinda became the good witch. This musical was based on the happenings of both ladies before they became witches.
Elphaba is played by Jacqueline Hughes and Glinda by Carly Anderson, the two actresses are perfect in their respective roles and there is no doubt about that. They sang with such strong vocals and have performed their roles as the two witches brilliantly.
The first part of the musical is based on the story of their boarding school life and the second part of the musical is based on their story when they went to the City of Emeralds to meet the Wizard of Oz. As the name emerald suggests, the theme and costumes are mainly based in green just like the Emerald jewelry. We also noticed many of the audience turned up in elaborate and amazing green costumes to celebrate this musical.
This is a truly wonderful musical with colourful set, beautiful costumes, lively and catchy songs packed with humour. The cast is fabulous and it is a fantasy musical with wizards, witches, magic and spells!
